The Les Bridge-trained Classique Legend sounded an ominous The Everest warning shot when producing a superb performance to win Saturday’s Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick.
Bridge labelled the classy grey ‘the best horse I’ve ever trained’ after Classique Legend stormed down the outside in a dominant first up display on his home course.
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy, who will pilot Classique Legend in The Everest, pushed his way off the fence to get the son of Not A Single Doubt to the outside in the straight.
And when he got there at the 200m mark, Classique Legend ($4.40 fav) quickened with ease to gun down the Joseph Pride-trained Eduardo ($11) by a length with James Cummings’ colt Bivouac ($5) close up in third.
