A third staff member in Renfrew County and district has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Sept. 16 case summary posted by the Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) on its website around 1 p.m. there are now seven people in self-isolation due to the virus. Of the 41 confirmed positive cases in Renfrew County and district, 33 are considered resolved with one death attributed to the virus.
This latest case is a resident of Pembroke and area, bringing the overall cases in the city and surrounding area to seven.
The previous two staff cases are related to Fellowes High School, which is currently considered in outbreak, which was declared by the RCDHU Tuesday evening. It is still unknown if this third case is related to the previous two positive cases of COVID-19 at the school.
On Wednesday morning, the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) issued a statement confirming the outbreak at the Pembroke high school, adding that according to the Ministry of Education, an outbreak must be declared when at least two lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases occur in a school within a 14-day period and where at least one case could have reasonably acquired the infection in the school.
The release states the RCDHU is not recommending any changes to student attendance at this time and the school will remain open as per its school day schedule. The RCDHU will determine when the outbreak is declared over.
