COVID-19 cases in Worcester rise for 2nd straight week

WORCESTER – After another week of increasing COVID-19 cases, city officials Thursday reminded residents ahead of the Labor Day weekend to follow

guidelines and protocols designed to slow the spread of the virus.

The city confirmed another 98 cases Thursday, for a total of 5,901 cases since March. It was the second straight week of increases. Combined reporting by UMass Memorial Health Care and St. Vincent Hospital showed that as of Wednesday, the hospital systems had a total of 19 COVID-19-positive inpatients, a decrease of one from last week. There were six total COVID-19 intensive care patients, an increase of one from last week. Another three deaths were confirmed among the two hospitals, for a total of 368. Another six hospital employees tested positive, for a total of 405.
